New Iberia
We went to New Iberia today. Terry and I have been reading James Lee Burke's books and many of them are centered around his home town of New Iberia. We want to see their award winning main street and old plantation homes. Upon arrival we ate at Victors Cafeteria, where the main character in the books has breakfast. Then we walked around town to look at the architecture. You can see that it is varied and interesting. You might also notice our fascination with the old live oaks.
Last we visited the information center. Louisiana does a good job of presenting information and the people were very helpful. The brochure I wanted about paddling Bayou Tesh was off the shelf but a major effort was made to find it for me. We thank them for all their southern hospitality.
Upon leaving we notice a prison work gang.I had used that very same outfit of black and white stripes for a Halloween costume when I was in high school.
We took the scenic route home, driving along the Tesh visiting Jeanerette, Baldwin and Franklin. We came back to Fausse Point on the other end of the levee road and saw a bald eagle - our first but not the last.
