gatorbybay_16_480x270Over a dozen Cascade Zydeco members made the trek Mothers' Day Weekend to San Diego, CA for the 8th Annual Gator By The Bay Zydeco, Blues and Crawfish Festival. This festival is a must for those who want to relax in the sun and enjoy the sounds of the south.  Not only can you dance and enjoy the music, but there are great opportunities to sample Cajun cooking, learn how to cook Cajun foods, take dance lessons, and participate in informal workshops related to Cajun and Zydeco music.

Although all the bands were excellent, Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble were over the top in sound and energy this year.  Curley's workshop was also one of the best I have attended.  Supported by his rubboard player he gave very up close and personal experience of his music.  The "living room" size venue's audience asked interesting questions about his musical life, songs and his style of accordian playing.

Lisa Haley and the Zydecats were also intriguing as they provided her interpretations and mixture styles to Zydeco Music.  As always, Brian Jack and the Zydeco Gamblers worked the crowd into a frenzie with their hard driving music.
