The fourth of July is Independence Day. Tradition is that you gather with friends or family to celebrate how lucky you are to be a citizen of a country so blessed with natural gifts. Celebrating the birth of a country which was born out of the desire of its people to be free of tyrannical rule. Alternately, we revel and relax in our enjoyment of our Independence.

I write about my Wednesdays not to tell others what to do or even to suggest something to try, but to report my experiences. When I say "we" I mean we are two couples, friends for many years who have worked together, raised similar aged kids and now retired who have discovered Zydeco dancing.

Perhaps because of the gruesome news from the neighborhood, I became interested in checking out the Belmont District again for a Wednesday evening outing. Not because of the news of the tragedy, but because it reminded me that I enjoyed several spots in the little business district over the years. It occurs to me that perhaps it is also a way I can say that I refuse to allow scattered senseless violence to deter me from interacting with my city.

Somewhat reluctant return of Ramblers to the roots of their rambling.

For me, there is nothing more luxurious than enjoying a good meal with good friends. Even better, to have the meal served to you in pleasant surroundings by pleasant people. If you too enjoy this luxury, and don?t mind going a ways to find it, you should check out the Dockside in St. Helens. You need to provide your own good friends, BYOGF.
